Defense as an Asset Class? Why Security-Critical Infrastructure attracts institutional Investors

NATO objectives, geopolitical tensions and special funds worth billions are currently reshaping not only Europe’s security architecture – but also the demands for infrastructure and real estate. With the growing need for investment in defence, the spotlight is turning to a market segment that has long lain outside the scope of traditional real-asset strategies: defence infrastructure. Barracks, logistics sites and security-related industrial parks are increasingly becoming strategic assets. What role can private capital play in the expansion of defence-related infrastructure? What return and risk profiles will emerge? And how can political sensitivities, ESG debates and long-term location strategies be reconciled? Our experts discuss the opportunities, limitations and specific requirements of an emerging asset class.
